High Rise Buildings Connect with History

February 28, 2017

Historical dimensions of architectural masterpieces incorporate two facts: The first is  seeing history through architectural masterpieces; and the second is the characteristics that make these art works memorable and ultimately historical.

Regarding the first fact, history without architectural achievements is an incomplete history, for it misses the physical aspects that represent it. Written history is a rigid history, and is only complete through its full components: the oral evidence (oral narrative), the written evidence, and the physical evidence.

Oral evidence is based upon what is preserved in the memory, like stories and events transmitted verbally from one individual to another across generations. Written history  consists of written or drawn materials, such as books, drawings, contracts, charts, and other relevant representations.

Physical evidence includes legacies of urban edifices, as the goal of our ancestors was to leave timeless and perennial objects that remain standing for generations to come.

This vision goes straightly opposite to the contemporary architecture that revolves around consumption. What will be the state of contemporary architecture in the future  imagined as ancient ruins? Will these ruins evoke wonder and amazement? These questions bring us to the second fact.

For architectural buildings to be timeless, the community needs to build them in precise and careful attention to serve as architectural heritage for posterity. This attention is reflected in the choice of durable building materials, solid constructions, ornamental details, and consistency with the identity of the surroundings. This is how historical timelessness is created and the architectural work becomes considered as a contribution to the historical inventory.

High-rise building specifications can connect them with history. They feature architectural standards aiming for excellence and innovation. They combine different building parts with each other in a balanced manner so as not to disturb the structural composition.

High-rise buildings include craft precision and workmanship, that contribute significantly to enrich the architecture, making it long lasting and memorable through history.

In addition, high-rise buildings exceed the artistic aspects to include modern functionalities providing fun, energy, health, and psychological comfort to the residents. They address the different senses, and many are aware of the high-rise building design through the perception of the buildings’ functionalities.

High-rise buildings are intended to establish originality and richness for the cultural, political, and economic inventories. They understand the needs of the present that is non-oblivious to the precedents, and is aspiring for better prospects for the architectural environment. This is what makes them worth being included in the pages of history.
